Drain cleaning in Tacoma. Cleared, flushed, and the cause named.
A kitchen sink standing full, a tub draining slower every week, a toilet the plunger gave up on. The line gets cabled through the trap or the cleanout and flushed until it runs clear, and you hear what caused it.

A cable job or something bigger? The drains tell you.
Most clogs live in one trap or one branch line. A few live in the main line under the house, and those announce themselves differently.
- A kitchen sink standing full while the rest of the house drains: grease and food in the trap or the branch line.
- A tub or shower draining slower every week: hair and soap in the trap.
- A toilet the plunger gave up on: something caught in the trap of the bowl or just past it.
- One bathroom sink slow: the pop-up stopper and the trap.
- Every drain in the house slow at once, with gurgling from a tub or a floor drain when the toilet flushes: the main line.
- Sewage at the lowest drain, and again a few weeks after it was cleared: roots or a broken section in the main line.
- A wet patch in the yard over the sewer line that never dries.
Cabling a main line through the cleanout is where light drain cleaning ends. Roots and broken sections need a camera, a jetter or an excavator: a different kind of job and a different kind of crew.
The cause
What went down the drain, and why it comes back
Kitchen lines clog on grease. It goes down warm, cools on the pipe wall and builds up in layers until a piece of food bridges the gap. Bathroom lines clog on hair and soap in the trap. Both come back if what caused them keeps going down, so the visit ends with the cause named.
Chemical drain cleaner sits in a blocked pipe, heats it and eats at old metal. It also ends up on the hands of whoever opens the trap next. Hot water and a plunger are the safe first try; the cable is the second.
Before you call
What helps before the visit
1
Stop running water into the slow drain, and hold the dishwasher and the washing machine if they share the line.
2
Skip the chemical cleaner. If some already went in, say so on the call: it changes how the trap is opened.
3
Note which drains are slow. One fixture points to a trap; all of them at once point to the main line.
4
Find the cleanout: a capped pipe outside near the foundation, in the crawl space or in the garage. A photo of it saves time on site.
Questions
Drain questions, answered before the visit
Why does my kitchen sink keep clogging?
Grease. It goes down warm, cools on the pipe wall and builds up in layers until food bridges the gap, so the clog returns on a schedule. Cabling clears the line; scraping plates into the trash and running hot water after the disposal is what keeps it clear.
Is it OK to pour Drano or another chemical cleaner down the drain?
Skip it. In a blocked pipe the chemical sits, heats the pipe and eats at old metal, and it is still there when the trap is opened by hand. If some already went in, say so on the call. A plunger and hot water are the safe first try.
Every drain in the house is slow at once. What does that mean?
The main line, the one pipe every fixture drains into. Cabling it through the cleanout is light drain cleaning. If it backs up again within weeks, or sewage shows at the lowest drain, roots or a broken section are the cause, and that takes a camera and a jetter, a different kind of crew.
The plunger did nothing. What is next for a clogged toilet?
A closet auger, a short cable shaped to go through the toilet's own trap without scratching the bowl. Most toilet clogs clear there. If the same toilet clogs again and again, the toilet comes off the floor to see what is caught in the flange or the pipe below it.
Where is the cleanout on my house?
Look for a capped pipe, usually three or four inches across, outside near the foundation on the street side, in the crawl space, or in the garage. Older houses sometimes have it under a sink or behind a panel. If you find it, a photo of it saves time on site.
